14 Ways to Get Your Home Ready for Easter

Easter’s almost here. Are you ready? More importantly, is your home ready?

Easter celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and is the culmination of the Passion of Christ, preceded by Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, prayer and penance.

The festival is a harbinger of hope and cheer, and there could be no better time to brighten up your home.

1. An Easter egg garland is the perfect welcoming note at the doorstep. Cut out egg shapes from paper, attach on a length of twine and string it up.

2. Overdose on florals. Bring out the floral stuff, be it furnishings, linen, crockery or accessories. It sets the perfect stage for the festival. But be sure to focus on pastels, not bright colours.

3. Create a Happy Easter banner for the mantel or stairway (or anywhere actually). Cut pastel-coloured paper in triangular shapes, stamp or stick letters, and string it up into a festive bunting.

4. Create a centrepiece for a coffee table. Cut easter egg shapes from coloured/scrapbook paper. You can either decorate with ribbon and buttons, or go without. Hang them from a collection of branches in a vintage vase or bucket.

5. A gingham garland – simple fabric scraps stuck to twine – creates an appealing picture.

6. Put together a pom-pom decoration that will be the perfect accent for a curtain rod or an indoor plant.

7. Make a seasonal wreath from twigs, branches and leaves, and dress it up with fresh flowers to signal the blooming of spring.

8. Create pretty little vignettes inside glass jars. Fill it up with small pebbles or sand, decorate with some shells or beads, and dress the jar with pastel ribbon.

9. Stack up on cheerful flowers across the home. In bottles and vases, in ones and twos, as bunches and garlands.

10. Put a selection of egg-shaped (even round will do!) pebbles in a clear vase, pour some water and stick in seasonal flowers for a pretty centrepiece.

11. Bring out the candles. Create little lighting spots – line up tapers on a shelf, pillars on a book case and put in new tea lights in votives.

12. Give old candle stands a new look by tacking on a flower with a piece of green twine/thread. Or try a selection of pretty leaves.

13. Create an Easter basket filled with goodies – dyed eggs, egg-shaped chocolates, and little gifts.

14. Work on the eggs. You can dye them, decorate them with fake tattoos, paint faces or moustaches, or stick on decals to create eggs to “dye” for!

Enjoy Easter!
