5 Questions with Kirath Ghundoo

Kirath Ghundoo, a surface pattern and wallpaper designer based in the United Kingdom, is known for her signature geometric wallpaper designs. Her first wallpaper collection, ‘Mix ‘n’ Match 11’, was launched at 100% Design, London, in September 2011. And there’s been no looking back. The “queen of pretty geometrics” loves surface pattern design as it lets her “explore a variety of surfaces across disciplines”.

What does design mean to you?

A visual interpretation of the things we see and do!

Why wallpaper? Why not paint?

Why not both – it’s interesting when both are combined. I have had a few clients who have cut our wallpapers and combined sections with paint. The results are quirky.

What are things that need to be kept in mind when using wallpaper in the home?

Bear in mind the space you are working with, is it large/small? How will you use colour softly within the space without it being domineering.

What trends are you seeing in the wallpaper and interiors world?

It is ever-emerging – 3d wallpaper where the client has control of the overall look. Paints and patterned carpets are now becoming a big trend.

Any maintenance tips for wallpaper-clad walls?

Make sure walls are dry, clean and well prepped, preferably with lining paper. Use a good quality paste and always use qualified decorators to hang.
