7 Ways to Banish Stress from Your Life

  1. Listen to music, the kind that soothes you. It could be old Hindi film songs, classic pop numbers or instrumental tapes. Playing calm music has a positive effect on the brain and body, can lower blood pressure, and reduce cortisol, a hormone linked to stress.

  2. Stress levels are closely related to a good diet. Ensure that you don’t give in to sugary treats or salty snacks when you’re feeling stressed at work. They may seem like the perfect pick-me-up but aren’t in the long run. Opt for brain food like nuts or tuna instead.

  3. Laughter is the best medicine. Laughing releases endorphins that improve mood and decrease levels of cortisol and adrenaline. Experts say laughing tricks your nervous system into making you happy. So watch a funny skit or read the funnies column to laugh your cares away.

  4. If you’re feeling snowed in, call a friend. Good relationships with friends and loved ones are important and it’s essential that you seek their reassurance when under stress. Simply listening to a familiar and loved voice can put things into perspective.
