Keep Your Bathtub Squeaky Clean

A long leisurely soak in the tub can soothe away all stresses. Be ready for impromptu soaks by keeping your bathtub in prime condition. Here’s how:

Bathtubs often seem to draw soap scum, mildew, grime, and end up with stubborn and unsightly stains. Keep your tub as good as new by being diligent and consistent with your cleanup routine.

Every day, after a bath, rinse the tub with clean and warm water. Wipe off excess moisture with a soft sponge or squeegee.

Once a week, give it a good clean. Forget commercial cleaners. Fill a spray bottle with a half-and-half solution of vinegar and warm water. Spray all tub surfaces, let stand for 15 minutes, and wipe off. Rinse with clean water and wipe again.

Once every 15 days, give your tub a thorough cleaning. Sprinkle the tub with baking soda and spray on the vinegar-and-water solution. The mixture will bubble. Let it sit for a few minutes. Scrub with a soft sponge to form a paste. Let the paste sit for 15 minutes, then wipe and rinse.

Wipe down the faucets with a terry-cloth towel to help remove soap scum and prevent mineral deposits.

Get rid of hard water stains by dipping paper napkins in white vinegar and placing the wet napkins on the stains. Let stand for one to two hours, then scrub with a paste of baking soda and vinegar before washing clean.
