Talking Design with Nishi Chandra

Dehradun-based lamp designer Nishi Chandra set up Khumari, a bespoke boutique for lamps because, “Khumari means ‘a high’; in my case, a creative high. My aim is to reach an audience that appreciates new design.”

Where do you find your inspiration?

I’m a morning person. I’m kind of brewing with new ideas with the first cup of morning tea. I think I’m very bold with concepts around that time, even adventurous. As the day sets in I get more caught up with the practical aspect of implementation and execution of the idea etc. although that’s challenging too. Life in all that it has to offer is an inspiration. It’s little things around us; I look for humour and simplicity that can be captured into my art.
