TGIF and You Can DIY: 13 Zero-cost Fixes to Score a New Look

1. Everyone’s always gushing about how turning furniture around the home gives you a brand new look. We have another take – switch curtains and drapes across rooms to create a new look for free (and little hardship!)

2. Create instant and standout art by displaying pretty fabric differently – encase it in smart frames for a modern look or put it in wooden sewing hoops for a bohemian display.

3. Raid your child’s art supplies and choose a shade you like. Use it to give your old fan a brand new look (don’t forget to clean it before that!).

4. Paint switchboards a different colour. Use store-bought acrylic paint; lime green or aqua work well in the bathroom, cream or coffee are ideal for the living room.

5. Use paper in bright shades to create pin wheels in different sizes and affix them to a wall. Instant decor update that’s ideal for a child’s room.

6. Raid closets and cupboards to bring out stunning additions. A dupatta can be put to use as a runner, a teapot that’s never used is ideal to hold flowers, and a collection of mismatched china works as dresser storage.

7. Use leftover pieces of fabric or paper to create buntings. Quick and easy way to add a bit of vintage charm to the dining area.

8. Bring out the string of lights you bought in Diwali and toss them artistically – across bathroom mirrors, over the dresser or even atop the AC (when not in use).

9. Add some chutzpah to the string of lights by decorating it with easy-peasy flowers made from cupcake flowers. Great as a lighting option for open areas, especially when entertaining.

10. If your child has grown out of her toy farm, paint all the animals with gold acrylic paint. Stick them on where you like – on the bathroom ventilator, on a window sill or atop the bookshelf.

11. Bring out the mismatched fabric swatches to create an awesome jar display. Use fabric to cover jar tops (cut and stick on with Fevicol) and display craft supplies, spices or what you like.

12. Create interesting displays with things found in all homes – pencils with toppers, colourful straws, children’s windmills, or even balls.

13. Give wooden cutlery a new lease of life by painting a section in a bright colour. You could go with just one shade, or choose ombre.
