The Diwan of Palanpur Sher Muhammad Khan Bahadur (1852 - 1918) Salute: 13 guns Print Number : 019 The only surviving son of Nawab Zorawar Muhammad Khan Bahadur, Diwan of Palanpur, Sher Muhammad Khan Bahadur, succeeded to the throne on the death of his father in 1878. An enlightened and conscientious ruler, he established a police force, schools for both boys and girls, introduced free primary education, built hospitals, founded travelling dispensaries and a library. He assisted the British during the Second Afghan War in 1879 and attended the Coronation Durbars of King-Emperor Edward VII at Delhi (1903) and King-Emperor George V at Delhi(1911). He received the Delhi Durbar gold medals (1903 and 1911).
